Andy Crook of GotBoost went right back to 2008 to use some of the first slides he used for technical training.

The subject was monitors, and andy reminded the technicians of how useful they are during the diagnostic process.

The presentation included Monitor types.
  • Continuous

  • Non- Continuous

  • Mis-Fire Monitors

How monitors are designed and something called Enabling Criteria.

Euro 7 & Monitors of the future

Andy explained how the Warning Lamp is expected to have multiple functions.

Andy then demonstrated how EV & Hybrid batteries could be tested using a simple SoC & SoH test procedure.

There are a number of emission-related monitors proposed in the new legislation. Any Hybrid or Electric Vehicle system fault that could result in more energy use could trigger emissions DTC’s.

Such as:

  • Battery SOC (State of Charge)
  • Battery SOH (State of health)
  • PSA (Propulsion System Active) Time
  • Charge Depleting Operations
  • EOE (Engine Output Energy)
  • PKE (Positive Kinetic Energy)
  • Grid Energy
  • Non-Grid Energy
  • Active Aerodynamic Improvements

Understanding monitors new and old provides the technician with another tool to aid in accurate diagnosis.

Monitors should be used during diagnosis, and especially after repairs have been carried out to prevent costly comebacks.
